To Hell and Back Reliability. SIG SAUER is a brand synonymous
with quality firearms. Inheriting a legacy of unparalleled Swiss craftsmanship and engineering, the 716 G2 Patrol is a hybrid AR-10. At the heart of the design lies a 2- position gas piston driven system. Technically referred to as the "Short Stroke Pushrod Operating System", it delivers the ultimate in reliability under extreme conditions. Gases are vented forward of the action, resulting in a cooler, cleaner and more reliable AR-10 rifle.

Unlike direct impingement, where the one critical flaw has been gas and fouling blowing directly into the upper receiver and bolt carrier, in a gas piston system the propellant gases push a solid rod, driving the carrier to the rear, thereby cycling the action. In the case of the SIG 716 SRP, gases are vented forward of the action, resulting in a cooler, cleaner and more reliable operation.

Over time, and through prolonged shooting without cleaning, direct impingement has a tendency to result in a dirty rifle, where the gas piston does not accumulate fouling in the action. The four SIG 716 gas settings are: an off position, a suppressed position, a normal operating position and an overgassed position.

The 716 G2 is a civilian legal AR-10 with a few minor upgrades built into the lower receiver. An ambidextrous magazine release works flawlessly from either side, while still leaving the normal right handed configuration and feel intact. A pair of quick detach sling mount adapters are milled into each side of the lower receiver.

The six position telescoping buttstock is standard M4 and mounted to a mil spec diameter receiver extension. A 7075-T6 aircraft grade aluminum forged lower receiver brings durability and reliability to the equation.

Located just underneath the rear takedown pin lug is a tensioning detent that applies pressure to the upper receiver, thereby eliminating receiver wobble. This in turn maintains the rifle's accuracy. Metal relief is evident in the lower receivers magazine well, which provides faster reloading.

An ergonomic SIG pistol grip is included with the package, which includes a storage compartment for batteries. This is an SRP (Sight Ready Platform), which means that it features a flat top upper receiver that does not include a carry handle or iron sights. Both upper receiver and front gas block are equipped with standard Picatinny rails for attaching flip-up iron sights and/or optics. Lowered, flared and polished M4 feed ramps have been cut into the upper to ensure reliable and consistent feeding.

The 716 G2's bolt carrier is a massive chunk of machined steel that has been chrome lined for maximum wear and corrosion resistance. Great care has been taken to ensure the carrier key is staked properly to ensure a steady gas flow. Standard upper features also include a brass deflector, ejection port cover and forward assist assembly.

A small protrusion inside the barrel extension supports the extractor body when the rifle is fired, relieving stress on the extractor pin should there ever be a cartridge over-pressure issue. The selector clicks from SAFE to FIRE crisply and while on the heavy side for liability reasons, the 7.6lb standard MIL-SPEC trigger breaks cleanly with minimal overtravel or creep.

The 16- inch nitride treated hammer forged barrel has been chromed lined for improved reliability and corrosion resistance. With a relatively fast barrel twist rate of 1:10", the rifle is capable of stabilizing heavy bullets such as .308WIN 175- grain match ammo, while equally at home firing standard 147- grain 7.62x51mm ball. As opposed to competing piston designs, you don't have to remove the the rail to clean the SIG SAUER 716 G2. Gas system parts can be accessed through the front of the gas block.

An A2 flash hider is attached via 5/8-24 t.p.i. found at the muzzle. The carbine length gas system is fed through a standard assembly gas block. The SIG SAUER 716 G2 is equipped with a free-floating Key Mod hand guard that provides attachment points for light, laser or a vertical foregrip.

In terms of durability, it shows no delamination or cracking at maximum impact strength measurement tests. In addition, surface hardness, lubricity and chemical abrasion were found to be superior to other finishes. The pistol also features corrosion resistant internal parts.

Weighing in at 9.3 pounds, the rifle accepts standard Stoner pattern (Magpul P-Mags) AR-10 magazines. For service or repair, it is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. Overall, the SIG SAUER 716 G2 is an innovative, rugged and reliable AR-10 rifle designed for years of reliable service.
