Prerequisites to Taking the Concealed Handun Course:

Eligibility- must meet State of Texas eligibility requirements- Click Here for details.

Deposit to Reserve a Seat- to sign up for one of our upcoming CHL courses, we require a $25 deposit per seat to enroll- Click Here for details  

Know How to Shoot- must know how to safely and effectively shoot a handgun before taking the shooting test.
  • Instructors are prohibited from teaching students how to shoot as part of the course.
  • If you need to learn how to shoot, you can hire one of our instructors who specialize in teaching beginning level shooters the basics.
 

Prerequisites to Receiving a Concealed Handgun License:

Eligibility- again, must meet eligibility requirements; otherwise the State of Texas will not issue a concealed handgun license- Click Here for details.

 

Minimum Age- For civilians, the minimum age to apply for a license is 21, where the minimum age to take the course is 19 (the course itself is good for 2- years). The minimum age for active military to apply for a license is 18.  

 

Contact the State of Texas & Submit Your Application- this is also the prerequisite to making your appointment to have your fingerprints taken. There is one of two ways to submit your license application:
  • New license applying ONLINE-  Click Here to go to the DPS website.

  •  If applying BY MAIL- we will provide all necessary documents the day of the course. 

 

Pay the State Licensing Fee- must be paid at the time you submit your license application.
  • The State will only accept credit cards when submitting online, but will accept personal checks, money order or cashier�s check when applying by mail.

 

 Fingerprinting- must submit license application and pay the State licensing fee first, but then are eligible to book a fingerprint appointment.
  • Effective March 1st 2011, instructors or law enforcement are no longer allowed to take CHL prints.

Passport Photos- no longer required for Texas residents. Specifically, the DPS will use your existing driver's license photo on the CHL license. For students that are not Texas residents or have a Texas D.L., will provide passport photos (free of charge).
 

CHL 100 Form- this is the document certifying you passed the course and must be sent with your final application to DPS.
