AR-15 Excellence. Stag Arms is known for its mil-spec quality rifles. The black guns that roll off the company's assembly line are engineered to perform in defensive, hunting and competitive situations.

Stag Arms is actually the "house brand" for Continental Machine & Tool (CMT), who has long worked as a sub-contractor making a wide range of parts for powerhouse AR-15 firms that are held in high regard. CMT has been in the game for many decades and they certainly know what they're doing.

For starters, the upper and lower receivers are as good as anyone's. They are forged from durable, lightweight, aircraft grade 7075-T6 aluminum alloy. The receivers are then Type III hard coat anodized and dry film lubed per military spec to provide wear and corrosion resistance. All pins-- including the hammer, trigger, pivot and takedown are mil-spec.

At the heart of the Stag Arms Model 3G design is a direct gas impingement system. Gas is tapped from the barrel as the bullet passes by the port located above the rifle's front sight base. The gas then rushes into the port and down a gas tube located above the barrel and into the upper receiver.

From there, the gas tube funnels into the bolt carrier. This gas system unlocks the bolt and begins the cycling process, but only after the bullet has exited the barrel. Direct impingement has several advantages over gas piston systems. For semi- automatic rifles with a barrel length of 16" or greater, impingement AR-15s are lighter, easier to free float the barrel, and much less expensive to manufacture.

A Magpul ACS collapsible stock allows the shooter to adjust length of pull to their personal preference, while the full length Sampson free- floating evolution handguard that provides steady handling. A standard carbine buffer and spring are included.

While rail attachments can be added to provide attachment points for tactical accessories such as foregrip, light or laser, the integral top Picatinny rail (included) functions as a forward "Scout" rail for the addition of optics.

A Magpul MOE grip provides improved handling. The Stag Arms Model 3G bolt has been magnetic particle inspected, shot peened and pressure tested to ensure that it's structurally sound and will not fail.

Similarly, the gas key has been properly staked to the bolt carrier. An ergonomic design makes the charging handle, safety selector, magazine release and bolt catch easy to access. The Geisele 3- gun trigger is crisp and breaks cleanly at only 3.5- pounds.

The M4 profile 18" 410 stainless steel button rifled fluted barrel for increased barrel life. The 3G compensator helps keep the gun on target during sustained fire and the 1:8" twist rate is fast enough to stabilize heavy bullets like the 75gr match round, while still capable of accurately firing standard 55gr ball ammo.

The Stag Arms Model 3G is chambered for 5.56 NATO cartridges , which allows you to safely fire both full power 5.56 or lower powered .223 rounds interchangeably without adjustment to the gas system. Even though M4 feed ramps are not included, the 45- degree standard cut feed ramp into the rifle's breach has proven itself very reliable when feeding a wide range of ammo..

The rifle weighs in at just 7.8 pounds and is a fast handling carbine. It includes one 30- round mil-spec type magazine. All steel parts wear a mil- spec manganese phosphate finish, including the barrel. Build quality is excellent and there is virtually no play between the upper and lower receiver.

A full length Picatinny rail runs the length of the gun, from the upper receiver all the way to the end of the handguard for the attachment of optics or flip-up iron sights (not included). The rifle wears no iron sights from the factory.

In the rare event a round fails to go into battery, the rifle is equipped with a forward assist. Similarly, a spring loaded receiver dust cover is designed to keep out dirt and other debris from entering the action, but instantly opens after the first shot.

For repair, the gun is backed by a 1- year warranty. Overall, the Stag Arms Model 3G is a well built 3-gun, hunting and excellent all-around AR-15 designed for many years of reliable service.
