The Cadillac of Carry Guns. The SIG SAUER P229 is one in a series of high quality, dependable, durable and considered by many to be the most accurate out of the box handgun available today. The P229 was the first pistol to be manufactured in SIG's Exeter, New Hampshire plant. The proven durability, dependability and uncanny accuracy has resulted in the SIG SAUER P229 being carried by the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The P229 is also the standard duty pistol for the U.S. Coast Guard, and is carried by numerous other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies across the country.
The SIG SAUER P229 is a short-recoil operated pistol that has a double action/single action (DA/SA) firing system. It carries a stainless steel slide on a lightweight aluminum alloy frame. The slide wears SIG’s Nitron black coating along with an improved, large external extractor positioned at the right rear of the ejection port. A passive firing pin safety lies hidden within the slide, and 10 diagonal rear-charging grooves enable positive loading and unloading.
The SIG SAUER P229 slide sits atop a machined, 7075-T6 lightweight aluminum frame which is black hard-coated over anodizing. A picatinny spec rail on the dust cover allows SIG P229 users to quickly install lights and lasers. The SIG SAUER P229 frontstrap features fine horizontal grooving. To safely lower a raised hammer on the P229, shooters can easily employ a user friendly decocking lever located on the frame. The SIG SAUER P229's new grip features “Enhanced Ergonomics,”, meaning the circumferential measurements are dimensionally smaller than previous generations of SIG SAUER pistols.
Disassembly of the SIG P229 for cleaning and maintenance is very easy, and requires no tools. Simply ensure the gun is unloaded, lock the slide back, rotate the takedown lever, release the slide lock, and remove the slide. The barrel and recoil guide rod and spring are then easily removed.
