To Hell and Back Reliability. SIG SAUER is a brand synonymous
with quality firearms. The origins of the company began in 1853 when the Swiss Wagon Company was awarded a national military contract to produce some 30,000 musket rifles. As a result, a name change was in order, and Schweizerische Industrei Gesellschaft (or"SIG", which translates to the Swiss Industrial Company) came into being. Swiss law prohibits domestic companies from producing firearms, and those who wished to do so must use a foreign partner. In the case of SIG, they chose a firm with a strong reputation for manufacturing top notch hunting shotguns and rifles-- Sauer & Sohn.

Together, SIG SAUER set about to design firearms and in 1949, created one of the finest quality handguns ever conceived. The Swiss military issue SIG P210 had a slide and frame machined from solid blocks of steel, while the tight fit between the slide, frame and barrel contributed to this pistol's reputation for achieving outstanding accuracy-- all without compromising reliability. In the mid 1970s, the P220 was developed to be the Swiss military's replacement for their now aging single action P210. By the late 70s, the P220 had made its way to the United States and was a instant hit among law enforcement and civilians alike. Throughout the 80s, 90s and into the new millennium, SIG SAUER produced one successful design after another. In fact today, it is estimated that 1/3rd of all law enforcement agencies in the United States issue a SIG SAUER pistol as a primary duty weapon.

SIG SAUER has also enjoyed an equally impressive track record for producing military rifles. From 1957 to 1990, the official battle rifle for Switzerland was the SIG SG-510 or "Sturmgewehr 57". It was subsequently replaced by the SIG SG-550 and later updated in 2008 to the SG-553. Many consider this to be one of the most reliable and well made military rifles in the world. Inheriting a legacy of unparalleled Swiss + German craftsmanship and engineering, the M400 is an AR-15 carbine that SIG SAUER initially developed for law enforcement, but has subsequently taken the civilian market by storm. The rifle has certainly raised a few eyebrows since it employs a traditional direct gas impingement system, where SIG gained an international reputation as a small arm manufacturing juggernaut building advanced gas piston platforms. The move was easy to understand when you actually stop to consider that the dominant weapons system in this county is direct gas impingement, and SIG has been in negotiations with several U.S. agencies regarding the M400.

As previously mentioned, at the heart of the SIG SAUER M400 Enhanced design lies a direct gas impingement system. It has the benefit of less moving parts, less weight, significantly less expense and typically greater accuracy. The M400 Enhanced is a civilian legal M4 with a few minor upgrades built into the lower receiver. An ambidextrous magazine release works flawlessly from either side, while still leaving the normal right handed configuration and feel intact. A pair of quick detach sling mount adapters are milled into each side of the lower receiver. The Magpul MOE six position telescoping buttstock is standard M4 and mounted to a commercial diameter receiver extension. A 7075-T6 aircraft grade aluminum forged lower receiver brings durability and reliability to the equation.

Located underneath the rear takedown pin lug, a tensioning detent applies pressure to the upper receiver, thereby eliminating receiver wobble. Metal relief is evident in the lower receivers magazine well, which provides faster reloading. An ergonomic Magpul MOE pistol grip is included with the package, but can be retrofitted with any number of popular replacement options available on the market. For iron sights, the flat top upper receiver is home to a rear flip-up Magpul BUIS adjustable sight, where the front sight post is the standard pattern elevation adjustable A2. The upper receiver is equipped with a standard Picatinny rail for attaching optics. Lowered, flared and polished M4 feed ramps have been cut into the upper to ensure reliable feeding.

The bolt carrier has been chrome lined for maximum wear and corrosion resistance, while great care has been taken to ensure the carrier key is staked properly to ensure reliable gas flow. Standard upper features also include a brass deflector, ejection port cover and forward assist assembly. A small protrusion inside the barrel extension supports the extractor body when the rifle is fired, relieving stress on the extractor pin should there ever be a cartridge over-pressure issue. The 16- inch nitride treated barrel has been chromed lined for improved reliability and corrosion resistance. With a barrel twist rate of 1:7", the rifle is capable of stabilizing heavy bullets such as .223REM 75- grain match ammo, while equally at home firing standard 55- grain 5.56mm ball. The barrel profile is close to that of the M4, with additional metal removed forward of the gas block.

An A2 flash hider is attached via 1/2-28 t.p.i. found at the muzzle. The carbine length gas system is fed through a standard assembly gas block. The SIG SAUER M400 Enhanced has carbine length Magpul MOE handguards that provide improved handling and contain two metal inserts, providing shielding and heat dissipation. For those who prefer weak hand support below the delta ring, there are four vertical grooves on the front of the magazine well. To provide maximum protection against wear or rust, the lower receiver has been hard coat anodized, while all other parts wear a tough mil-spec manganese phosphate finish. Weighing in at 6.7 pounds, the rifle accepts standard AR-15 magazines. For service or repair, it is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. Overall, the SIG SAUER M400 Enhanced is an innovative, rugged and reliable M4 rifle designed for years of reliable service.
