Low prices on the Ruger Single Six start at Champion Firearms- the New Model Convertible Single-Six® revolvers are the perfect small bore single-action revolver for plinking, small game hunting or serious competition. All .22 caliber models come with two cylinders (one in .22 LR and one in .22 Magnum) for increased versatility. The Ruger New Model Single-Six is a .22-caliber revolver with styling inspired by the historic guns of the Old West. The Ruger Single-Six looks like a downsized copy of the popular Ruger Blackhawk revolver.
The "New Model" designation of this Ruger Single-Six refers to the incorporation of a transfer bar internal safety mechanism. When the revolver's hammer and trigger are fully forward, the hammer rests on the frame of the gun and cannot contact the firing pin. This makes it nearly impossible for the gun to "go off" when dropped. The transfer bar rises as the trigger is pulled. When the cocked hammer falls, it hits the transfer bar and the transfer bar transfers the energy to the firing pin which fires the shot.
This "Convertible Model Single-Six" comes with two cylinders: one fluted and one with smooth sides. The fluted cylinder is chambered for .22 Long Rifle ammunition and can also fire .22 Short and .22 Long cartridges. As a rimfire round, .22-caliber ammunition is simply much, much, less expensive than more powerful centerfire calibers. Small game and varmint hunters will enjoy the smooth-sided cylinder because it is chambered for the more potent .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR) cartridge.
