Low prices on Ruger Mark III Rimfire Pistols start at Champion Firearms- the original Ruger rimfire pistol, now called the Standard, had no model number (as it was the first) and for a time, the only gun made by Ruger. Prior to Bill Ruger's partnership with Alexander Sturm, he had successfully duplicated two Japanese Baby Nambu pistols while working in his garage shortly after World War II. Although deciding against marketing the Baby Nambu pistols, Ruger did incorporate the Nambu style rear cocking device and modified the Nambu's silhouette into his Standard rimfire pistol, plus he added a 4.75 inch lightweight barrel with fixed sights.
Ruger's Standard rimfire pistol series ran from 1949 to 1982. The Mark I Target was introduced in 1951, featuring a 5.5" heavy barrel and was also replaced in 1982. This second generation Ruger rimfire pistol, dubbed the Mark II, ran from 1982 to 2005. In 2005, Ruger unveiled the Mark III rimfire pistol which featured many new innovations.
