Low prices on the Marlin 60 Blued Wood in .22LR start at Champion Firearms-
The World's Most Popular .22 Rifle. The Marlin model 60 rifle is the world's most successful .22 rimfire rifle with over 11-million units sold since the early 1960's. By comparison, Ruger has managed to sell slightly more than 5-million of its highly popular model 10/22 rifles in roughly the same time frame. It's staggering when you stop and consider those numbers, and the fact Marlin has more than double Ruger's sales is a true testament to the model 60.
At the heart of the design lies streamlined styling. No other rimfire rifle feels as good in the hands, mounts as effortlessly to the shoulder or points as naturally to its intended target. The rifle weighs in at just 5.5 pounds.
To keep weight at a minimum, the receiver is constructed of a durable aluminum alloy whose top is serrated, then finished in a non- glare matte black. In addition, an integral 3/8" dovetail receiver rail allows the easy mounting of rimfire rings and optics. The hardened steel bolt and charging handle work effortlessly to cycle the action.
The round profile 19" barrel has the company's signature Micro-Groove rifling and exhibits excellent accuracy. For those unfamiliar with the process, Micro-Groove barrels contains more lands and grooves than conventional rifling, resulting in a bullet that is not as deeply distorted and therefore more accurate.
On the tip of the barrel is a precision crown that improves barrel harmonics, reducing vibration that may otherwise throw the bullet's trajectory off target. An adjustable rear sight is paired with a ramped front that combines to present the shooter with a solid sight picture.
Performance on the Marlin Model 60 is excellent and this rifle will cycle as fast as you can pull the trigger. It is semi- automatic blowback powered and fed via a 14- shot tubular brass magazine that rides in a low profile configuration underneath the barrel.
When paired with a scope, accuracy is deadly and groups are typically less than an inch at 50- yards with decent quality .22LR ammunition. While the Marlin is usually much more accurate out-of-the-box than a factory Ruger-- which typically requires hundreds of dollars worth of accessories to make it shoot comparably well-- a potential drawback to the model 60 is it lacks the endless selection of aftermarket accessories currently available for the 10/22.
An attractive one- piece walnut laminated hardwood stock has a Mar-Shield finish for enhanced weather resistance, while a Monte Carlo extension compensates for proper cheek weld when mounting. A deep blued finish can be found on all steel parts, including the barrel.
The crossbolt manual safety is conveniently positioned directly behind the trigger guard, while a "last-shot" bolt hold open feature indicates the gun is empty-- without potentially risking damage to the firing pin by dry-firing a rimfire rifle on an empty chamber. For service or repairs, the rifle is backed by the company's standard 5- year manufacturer's warranty.
Overall, the Marlin model 60 is a handy, reliable, accurate and affordably priced .22LR rimfire rifle.
