Your Little Girl's First Gun. Keystone Sporting Arms was founded by father and son team Bill and Steve McNeal. Both Bill and Steve were impressed by the look and the feel of the Chipmunk youth rifle, how compact and attractive it was, and the fact that it was made especially for youth shooters. After a failed attempt to purchase the Rogue Rifle Company (mfg. of the Chipmunk), they began working with design engineers, consulting gun manufacturers, and trademark experts-- they created the Davey Crickett single shot .22 caliber youth rifle.

Keystone opened its doors in January 1996 with only four employees in Milton, Pennsylvania. The business started as a family owned and operated company and its first year produced 4,000 Crickett rifles. Since then Keystone has purchased the Rogue Rifle Company in Oregon-- maker of the Chipmunk rifle they so admired. Equipped with modern, state of the art equipment, Keystone continues to grow, producing some 60,000+ Crickett and Chipmunk rifles annually, while employing over 70 people.

Designed for the beginning shooter, backpacker, trapper, camper and gun club -- at the heart of the Davey Crickett design is its famous single shot, micro compact action. Not only does a single shot force a new shooter to slow the process down thereby reinforcing safety, it also allows them to concentrate on skill development. Extremely user friendly for young shooters to operate, a single shot is less dramatic than a magazine fed bolt action and much safer than a semi- automatic.

The Cricket rifle will fire .22LR, .22 Short, .22 Long and .22 CB ammunition -- whether standard or high velocity. Machined from nickel plated alloy steel, after a round is loaded into the chamber and bolt closed, the action must be cocked back manually in order to fire. This process, while tedious, further reinforces safety and discipline on the range. To encourage accuracy and development of proper shooting skills, the trigger is set at a crisp, but safe, 2-1/2 pound pull.

A rebounding safety automatically blocks the firing pin. Built especially with little girls in mind, the stock is a pink synthetic with a miniature Monte Carlo design. The length of pull is just 12- inches. Balancing perfectly with the overall dimensions of the rifle, the Davey Crickett's barrel is 16-1/8". A deep blued finish is professionally done and standard iron sights acquire targets well. The rifle weighs in at a modest 2-1/2 pounds and is light enough for youth shooters to practice firing from a standing position.

Keystone's goal is to instill gun safety in the minds of youth shooters and encourage them to gain the knowledge and respect that hunting and shooting deserves. Overall, the Crickett is a high quality youth rifle made here in the U. S. A. and is ideally suited to be your little girl's first gun.
