A New Legacy Begins. The
story of the Colt Government Model 1911 pistol originates in the late 1890's. As a result of the U.S. military's search for a suitable autoloading replacement to the revolvers of the day, field trials were conducted, which then led to the purchase of some 1,000 German DVM Luger pistols chambered in 7.62 Mauser.

Needless to say, stopping power on the .30 caliber handgun proved underwhelming. As a result, DVM produced an enlarged version of the pistol chambered in 9mm and submitted 50- units to the Army for testing and evaluation.

Meanwhile, half a world away, brave American fighting men were dying in the jungles of the Philippines-- they were being brutally hacked to death by Moro guerrillas because their standard issue .38 revolvers proved ineffective at incapacitating these drug induced tribesman and their razor sharp machetes.

As a result, Army Colonel John T. Thompson, who was Chief of Small Arms at the U.S. Ordnance Department and future father of the famous submachine gun known by many names-- the "Tommy Gun", "Chopper", "Trench Broom" or "Chicago Typewriter"--specified that "the new pistol should not be less than .45 caliber".

Several manufacturers would submit entries for the 1911 contract, but in the end, the U.S. military would turn, as it often did, to the brilliant mind of John Moses Browning and the pistol he designed for Colt. During the trials, six thousand rounds had been fired from a single pistol. When the Colt began to get too hot, it was simply submerged in water to cool it off. While other manufacturers reported dozens of malfunctions, the Colt had none. The rest is history.

The evolution of the Colt Rail Gun series brought many new advancements to the table that were not even dreamed possible back in the the year 1911. At the heart of the Colt Rail Gun design is a CNC machined forged steel frame, slide and slide stop. A M1913 Picatinny rail provides attachment points for adding tactical accessories such as lights or lasers.

The Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun is a duty ready pistol designed with the help of world renowned trainers Ken Hackathorn and Daryl Holland. Featuring our Dual Spring Recoil System, Novak Night Sight, acquiring and staying on target is easy. The pistol also features an undercut trigger guard and upswept beavertail, allowing shooters a higher grip for enhanced comfort and accuracy, as well as 25 LPI checkering on the front strap. Custom gray Colt G10 stocks and the legendary National Match barrel complete the package.

The pistol wears a tactical black finish to prevent glare or flash. A high ride, upswept beavertail grip safety allows the shooter to get up higher on the bore axis, thus reducing felt recoil, while also minimizing the potential for slide bite. When combined with the enhanced under cut trigger guard-- handling and control are greatly improved.

An integrated raised Memory Groove along the lower portion of the grip safety helps to ensure consistent disengagement, even among those with larger hands. One of the pistol's best features is the ambidextrous thumb safety. The levers are long, wide and easy to reach. They are not so wide, however, that it detracts from the gun's overall ability to carry concealed.

The Colt Rail Gun has a firing pin block safety system that the company refers to as Series '80. This feature should hopefully bring peace of mind due to the fact if the gun is ever dropped or banged, it prevents an unintentional discharge.

In fact, the only way the pistol can be fired is if the shooter depresses the trigger while under a fully cocked hammer. Unlike Series '70, the gun will not fire from the half-cock position.

A one-piece, full-length guide rod helps enhance overall accuracy and reliability. The skeletonized trigger and hammer work in tandem to substantially increase lock time, thereby elevating the overall performance potential of the pistol. Two 8- round magazines are included with the package. The pistol weighs in at 40 ounces unloaded.

For service or repair, the gun is backed by a manufacturers lifetime warranty. Overall, the Colt Rail Gun is an advanced, highly refined, accurate and extremely reliable modern self- defense pistol based on history's most beloved pistol design.
