Description Additional Information

Low prices on the XM-10 Optics Ready Carbine start at Champion Firearms-

Defending Freedom Around the Globe. Founded in 1973, Bushmaster is a firearms manufacturer based in North Carolina and now owned by the Freedom Group. These are the same folks that own Remington, Marlin, DPMS -- among others. The XM-10 Optics Ready Carbine is a ArmaLite pattern rifle, which means it is based on Eugene Stoner's original design.

At the heart of the design is a direct gas impingement system. Gas is tapped from the barrel as the bullet passes by the port located above the rifle's front sight base. The gas then rushes into the port and down a gas tube located above the barrel and into the upper receiver. From there, the gas tube funnels into the bolt carrier.

This gas system unlocks the bolt and begins the cycling process, but only after the bullet has exited the barrel. Direct impingement has several advantages over gas piston systems. For semi- automatic rifles with a barrel length of 16" or greater, impingement AR-10s are lighter, easier to free float the barrel, and much less expensive to manufacture.

A 6- position M4 style collapsible stock allows the shooter to adjust length of pull to their personal preference, while the mid- length oval handguards provides steady handling. It also includes an M2 style checkered pistol grip with finger grooves. The buffer tube dimensions are those of the smaller diameter commercial spec.

However, everything else about the Bushmaster is mil- spec. The XM-10's bolt has been magnetic particle inspected, shot peened and pressure tested to ensure that it's structurally sound and will not fail. Similarly, the gas key has been properly staked to the bolt carrier.

The heavy profile 16.1" 4150 chrome moly steel barrel is then chrome lined to make it less susceptible to fouling, reduce corrosion and enhance feeding. The 1:10" twist rate is fast enough to stabilize heavy bullets like the 168gr match rounds, while still capable of accurately firing standard 147gr ball ammo.

The Bushmaster XM-10 is chambered for .308WIN cartridges , which allows you to safely fire both full power .308 or lower powered 7.62X51 NATO rounds interchangeably without adjustment to the gas system. M4 feed ramps ensure proper feeding of ammunition to help reduce malfunction rates, even during rapid fire.

Both upper and lower receivers are forged from durable, lightweight aircraft grade 7075-T6 aluminum. Due to the fact the bolt locks into a steel extension on the barrel and not the receiver, the Bushmaster XM-10 can easily use such lightweight materials without sacrificing structural integrity.

The receiver surfaces are then hard coat anodized and dry film lubed per military spec to provide wear and corrosion resistance. The rifle weighs in at 7.75 pounds and includes one 20- round metal (Stoner / DPMS / Magpul pattern) magazine. All steel parts wear a mil- spec manganese phosphate finish, including the barrel. Build quality is excellent and there is virtually no play between the upper and lower receiver.

While iron sights are not included, a set of 1/2" riser rails affixed to the Picatinny flat top receiver allow for the mounting of optics. The milled front gas block does not contain a Picatinny rail, so front mounted iron sights are not possible on this rifle.

In the rare event a round fails to go into battery, the rifle is equipped with a forward assist. Similarly, a spring loaded receiver dust cover is designed to keep out dirt and other debris from entering the action, but instantly opens on the first shot.

For repair, the Bushmaster is backed by a 1- year warranty. Overall, the Bushmaster XM-10 Optics Ready Carbine is an affordable, well built semi- automatic sporter rifle designed for year of reliable service.
