A Humble Masterpiece. In production for over a century, the Browning Semi-Auto 22 is unlike any other rimfire on the market. The rifle was one of the first autoloading rimfires ever made and is still going strong. It was designed by John Moses Browning and is a lasting tribute to his legendary vision and genius. Production began in 1914 and continued all the way through 1974 at FN Herstal in Belgium. Then, manufacturing shifted over to Japanese powerhouse Miroku in 1976, where it remains till this day.

Essentially, the Browning Semi- Auto 22 is a takedown rifle that ejects spent casings downward, making it a pleasure to fire for both right-handed and left-handed shooters. In addition to being ambidextrous, John Browning principally designed the rifle for bottom ejection to provide a greater degree of shooter safety. Specifically, this feature was intended to protect the user's face from hot gasses and flying particles while firing.

Without the need to machine out a side ejection port, the receiver remains more rigid. Constructed out of forged steel, the one down side is the rifle becomes much more expensive to manufacture than its aluminum counterparts, but the quality is nevertheless abundantly apparent. Another big bonus of bottom ejection is it leaves a larger creative "canvas" for creative custom enhancements such as receiver engraving. As such, the Browning Semi- Auto 22 Grade 1 features handsome scroll laser engravings on both sides and adds a real touch of class.

A deep blued finish and select American walnut stock with matching forend are equally stunning in appearance and function. Polished to a sheen, the finely checkered stock provides a positive grip and improves handling. The slimline forend and ergonomic lines provides extraordinary balance and greatly enhances handling. More importantly, it allows the shooter to quickly mount the rifle and make decisively accurate shots.

For iron sights, the rifle wears an adjustable folding leaf rear with a gold bead front that are highly visible and get on target well. Drilled and tapped to accept a scope mount, a cantilever mounting system can also be purchased separately from Browning. For those unfamiliar with a cantilever mount, this is a front mounted scope base that attaches to the barrel and not receiver-- which becomes important in a takedown rifle for ease of cleaning, maintenance or storage. When the rifle is taken down, the base and optic stay with the barrel to ensure zero is not affected.

The rifle easily breaks down into two pieces without need for tools by turning the barrel nut and depressing the release lever simultaneously. It is a tubular round feed rifle, which runs directly through the middle of the buttstock. It holds 10- rounds of .22LR that are inserted through a loading port in the side of the stock or dropped directly into the back of the tube. The manual safety is the push button variety and mounted to the front of the trigger guard.

Overall, the Browning Semi- Auto 22 has long been a favorite of hunters and plinkers alike. It a classic rifle design that epitomizes a commitment to craftsmanship, ingenuity, offers elegant beauty while remaining functional in every regard.
