Benelli's Inertia Driven operating system is simple with only three primary parts: the bolt body, the inertia spring and the rotating bolt head. With a greatly reduced mass and number of moving parts, Inertia Driven is faster. Because it's inertia and not gas operation, Benelli shotguns run smoother and cleaner. Gas, smoke and burnt powder stay in the barrel where they belong, rather than being channeled into the action as they are in gas systems. In addition, because there are no additional moving parts to fail like gas rings, sleeves, cylinders, ports or rubber o-rings, Benelli shotguns are much more reliable.
The vault- like locking lugs on the inertia system’s rotating bolt head are a tight steel-to-steel lockup inside the barrel, and engage even tighter when fired. TheInertia Driven system is not only incredibly simple, but it is also lightweight-- allowing Benelli shotguns to be some of the lightest semi-automatic shotguns ever produced. With no springs, action bar linkage or heavy gas cylinder under the forend, Benelli’s shotguns balance like a high performance shotgun should-- perfectly.
